The consultation was held on May 29, 2015 which saw twenty three participants – Three representatives from government organizations, five from NGOs, two from global apparel brands, three from manufactures, six from trade unions, two from Multi-stakeholder initiatives and two independent professionals. The report gives an overview of the meeting and main results.
Background of the project: Several civil society organisations in Bangalore have been working for the past many years to improve childcare in garment factories. In cooperation with the German women’s organisation FEMNET, financially supported by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), Cividep India has now undertaken a project to improve the condition of crèches and extend their coverage in Bangalore’s garment factories. Many of these factories are suppliers of clothing, including children’s wear to the global clothing brands. The objective of the project is to help establish functional crèches in some selected factories, and to lay the groundwork for a sustainable child care model that can be adopted across garment factories in Bangalore.
